Dewsbury Elim Children’s Ministry meets on Sunday’s from 10.30 and joins with the church family for a short while before going upstairs for their own activities. We work with up to 30 to 40 children and look at being:
We also have themed days, parties and fun days out. The team of 12 meet monthly as a small group ministry called ‘Triangle’ for matters concerning parents, children and teachers.
God is interested in every detail of our lives. He wants to hear our news as well as our requests. The children will learn that prayer is an expression of relationship, it can be done silently, loudly, alone or in a group, sung, spoken or drawn, the list is endless. They will look at topics covering:
Through games, craft and practical application, the children will learn that no-one is too young (or old!) to pray and that prayer often leads to a response which in turn leads to action.
A typical Sunday begins with action songs and prayers for everyone. Then the 0 to 3’s go to the crèche for their play and learn activities. The rest break into 3 age groups; 5’s and under, 5’s to 8’s and 8’s to 11’s. They follow a structured age appropriate programme which incorporates games, stories and creative activities. This helps the children to explore Biblical faith which involved the head (belief), the heart (trust) and the hands (action) and hopefully set a direction for life.
Please speak to Peter of Susan who can arrange a taster day. We value your support for various activities; i.e. craft, story telling, games, music and tidying away. The church operates a Child Protection Policy under the umbrella of CCPPAS.
All our children’s workers are CRB checked prior to a placement being filled.

Attitude is Everything

Speaking or reading ‘Christianese’ instead of making the Good News plain. There is an urgency to what we do.
I love being the instrument that God uses to work through the lives of these children.
Motorbikes, solar energy, Sudoku, guitar and gadgets.

Deeply Valued – He gave everything for me
For 34 years – since Sunday May 1st 1977
At a Christian Endeavour Young People’s weekend in Wales.
Persecution takes many forms, both home and abroad.
Knowing that God really is in control.
Reading, crosswords, writing, exploring with our house on wheels, eating out (eating in when Peter cooks!).
Peter and Susan have two grown up children; Jonathan married to Hannah and both proud owners of a family of gerbils, whilst David loves computers and all things technological. Peter is currently learning the guitar, Susan is planning a round the world tour taking in New Zealand. Peter loves to go on motorbikes with friends. Susan enjoys time spent with friends just chilling. Se you could sat Peter is an action man and Susan a dreamer. Both combinations are needed if leading Children’s Ministry is to work.
We have a great team of children’s workers here at Dewsbury Elim. They each have their own specific giftings and are highly valued. They are flexible, creators of fun and we are glad to partner with them on this journey of bringing children into faith.
“No other ministry requires love, patience, enthusiasm, forgiveness, creativity, flexibility, humility and cleanliness all in the same hour” (Andy Johnson)

The vision that fuels our work in children’s ministry grows out of Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:14 when Jesus says; “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden”. We understand this to mean:
Light = beacon to the lost
World = people of all nations – nations meaning ethos – ethos meaning our locality (Dewsbury)
City on a hill cannot be hidden = group of people (us) on an elevated position and therefore visible to all. What’s on the inside will come out / shine through – it’s as easy as starting a conversation or asking friends to come.
2 Cor 4:6 for God, who said; “Let light shine out of darkness”, made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. In the bible Paul and the Rabbi’s referred to Jews and Christians as ‘light of the world’, but the New Testament also states that it is Jesus who is the supreme Light of the World. In John 8:12 Jesus says; “I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”.
A typical Wednesday involves a combination of 4 zoned areas.
Game Zone – main focus The Whole Body (listening, seeing, touching, tasting, smelling)
This will use the whole of the room and is sports based.
Media Zone – main focus Eyes (visual)
This area consists of DVD’s, games consoles, Nintendo Wii
The Heart (searching, giving, worship, joy, expression)
By using CD’s, keyboard and other instruments the children will develop skills and use the music zone to both worship and chill out.
Quiet Zone – main focus – Ears (listening and hearing)
Story time and reflective prayer.
All these activities are supported on various Wednesdays by craft, painting, quizzes and various challenges.
Refreshments are provided.
We meet in the Daisy Hill Den (accessed by the outside steps at Dewsbury Elim Church), Daisy Hill, Dewsbury from 6-7pm Wednesdays (term-time) for ages 5-11.
